What Is E-commerce Business Insurance?
E-commerce insurance is a bundle of business coverages built for the unique risks of selling products online — product injury claims, data breaches, advertising-injury suits, and inventory loss. A generic business owner policy (BOP) isn't enough on its own because the two biggest risks for online sellers (product liability and cyber liability) are excluded or sub-limited in a standard BOP.
The core stack: product liability (covers customer injury claims from products you sell — required by Amazon, Etsy, and most marketplaces), cyber liability (covers data breaches, ransomware, and regulatory fines), general liability (covers advertising injury, trademark disputes, and third-party claims from your marketing), and inventory / stock throughput (covers your physical inventory whether it's in your warehouse, a 3PL, or an Amazon FBA facility). A BOP wraps GL + property + business interruption when you have a physical office or warehouse.
